Disk Utility cannot be running Verify/Repair Disk Permissions because running the Terminal command displayed many permissions errors and then went on to repair them. Conclusion Do not rely on Disk Utility in El Capitan to keep the disk running smoothly.

If this setting is incorrect on a new hard drive you just installed, you’ll have problems accessing files on that drive. NOTE: This technique applies to, and works the same on, all versions of the Mac OS from 10.6 through 10.9. Applications, and the boot disk, require permissions and ownership to be accurate and enabled to function properly. (A permission allows one application to “talk” with another application.) This is what we are repairing when we use Disk Utility to “Repair Permissions.” NOTE: File servers, also, require permissions to keep track of which user has access to which file.

Repairing Disk Permissions On Macbook Pro

Not sure whether this may be related to the problem or not but I am also having a problem with repairing Disk permissions, it shows lots of them, says they have been repaired, but on any subsequent run of the Disk Utility, it shows over and over again the same permissions as not being repaired, and re-repaired again, apparently the Disk Utility is actually doing nothing! Any inputs or Help about this? A Fix for Spotlight, but other problems still there. For anybody experiencing the same problems, I could partly fix the Spotlight by excluding the Hard Drive from it and including it again. When I first tried to do the same it wouldn't let me do it but for some reason it finally worked after several tries and restarts.
